THE LONG BEACH HARBOR, MS is now accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Harbor Guard. Pay is 10 dollars an hour. The Long Beach Public Library is seeking applicants for the position of Part-time Library Aide.

 

Library Aide

The Library Aide will report to the Assistant Library Director or Library Director.   Training may be provided by any full-time staff member.

Overview

The Library Aide provides assistance in the various library departments.  Aides may be asked to assist at the Main Circulation Desk, the Reference Department or Children’s Department.  Library Aides provide essential assistance to full-time staff by helping patrons, shelving books, and assisting in day-to-day operations of the library.  Successful Library Aides enjoy books and helping people, essential qualities needed in the library setting.

Responsibilities and Duties

Library Aides are expected to handle the following responsibilities and duties.  These are not all tasks that may be required of the Library Aide.

  • Library Aides will assist at the Main Circulation Desk, the Reference Department, and the Children’s Department as needed.

  • Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with checking items in and out, issuing/renewing library cards, making copies, sending faxes, collecting fines, fees, or book sale money.

  • Other duties include shelving books, “reading” shelves (putting items in order), shifting as needed, answering the phone, locating items for patrons, helping patrons log onto/off of computers.  May be required to help with events including preparation before the event, assistance during the event, and clean up after the event.

  • Various other duties may be required such as maintenance-type operational needs. 

Qualifications

  • Education level:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience:  1 - 2 years library or office experience desired, but not required.

  • Specific skills:  General computer skills such as being familiar with Microsoft Office/Windows operating systems, keyboarding, printing, Microsoft Word.  Cashier experience is a plus. 

  • Personal characteristics:  We are looking for someone who is reliable, honest, creative, loves (or at least respects) books, and possesses a willingness to help people and to learn from those around them.

  • Physical abilities:  Must be able to stand for lengths of time, reach high and low library shelves, and lift up to 10lbs.

  • A recent un-mounted full face photograph (passport size).

  • A copy of your birth certificate.

  • Your fingerprints on an official fingerprint card (obtained through the police department, sheriff's office or highway patrol).

  • A copy of your DD-214, if prior service.

  • Copy of your high school diploma.

  • Driver's license and social security card.
